Future Trends

Connect - Linda

After individualization, people are looking for ways to connect again. They want to feel like they belong to a certain community. They have the need to share. Social networking(sites) allow people to connect from all over the world. And with the use of a webcam and a microphone, conversations can be held from all over the world for free.

With the use of internet on television by digital tools, people will start to connect with people from all over the world only within the four walls of their living rooms. Different communities will arise, even to start all new connections.

Repair - Celine

The media these days are all about being beautiful, special and famous. Especially TV is focused on these aspects, think of shows like ‘next top model’. These shows have a worldwide audience, and people think that this is the normal, or ‘standard’ of how they should dress and look.

The future will hold (at least for the rich and semi-rich) an increase of surgery and other technical medical procedures that will ‘’repair’’ their physical appearance. Because people want to look good and they also want to ‘be’ young, they think to accomplish that by doing plastic surgery.

The media will make the maxi trend of repair to drastically increase all kinds of physical change in the future.

 Recycling - Sander

The world is finally thinking about the future. We cannot continue our ways of living like we are doing now. But for that change, there need to be made serious adjustments, which isn’t something that we are good following in. It needs to be made cool to do such things as recycling. Otherwise there will never be a change and we will destroy our own planet.

It is already a hype to wear vintage clothing, which also creates a situation of recycling. But we need to go way further. Recycling of bottles of water, old telephones, our old clothes, our used paper and so much more. The whole world need to go to rehab, for a global pollution treatment.

Authority - Milan

One of the trends that a lot of Trend Watchers (e.g. Carl Rohde) are working with at the moment, is authority.

The economic crisis (that is still in effect in some parts of the world and in certain sectors) has led to global economic depression and has alienated banks, stockbrokers and other financial institutions from the common folk. Today we are looking for people who will tell us that things we be better in the future, but even more importantly: we look for people who can push us trough the hard times and make sure that a catastrophe like this douse not take place again any time soon.

Following the mega-trend of the Economical crisis is the maxi-trend of Authority. Goverments all over the world are showing the dominant position, and are looking for people to punish for the failing of a broken system. Just think of all the investigations around bankrupt banks, the failing car industry in America and the new American President that strives with hope and authority.

 Technology Kelly

Technology has always been there. Every time zone has its own technology level. In the beginning of the earth it were human beings. Now we have computers.

To improve technology innovations are needed. This is a constant process. One product or service is finished but the next is already on its way. Where does innovation end?

Something that is on its way but not yet there is 3D TV. It is already implemented in cinemas all around the world and expected to be implemented in TV in the near future.
